A message from RTS founder, Mike Tuchscherer, welcoming you to the team!
If you have not already completed the Start-up questionnaire, please do that right away.
At RTS we believe it is important to empower our lifters with knowledge. Knowledge that helps support them to make smart training choices. Below is the base knowledge needed to successfully execute your training. Some of this might be information you are already familiar with, while some of it you may have not ever heard of before. Your coach is there to help support you along the way along with the RTS Training Lab community. This will get you a solid foundation for your training. The page is divided up into the following sections:
RTS Training Log
Training Basics
Advanced Progressions
RTS Training Lab
Additional Resources (text-based section)
In this video, coach John is going to show you how to get your training log set-up. Getting this set up correctly will help you with logging your training and help your coach with writing training that fits your sitaution.
Logging your training is a critical component for your coach to be able to monitor the results of your training and to write highly individualized training. Data collection and analysis is the fundamental step for this entire process.
All RTS programing uses Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) as a way to auto-regulate the training loads. This is to account for the natural fluctuations of strength that occur. One of the main goals of training is to put the correct weight on the bar and perform the correct number of repetitions. The RPE tool allows us to be more accurate in that quest.
At RTS we use a programming system that is called Emerging Strategies. This process allows us to radically individualize the training to meet you where you are at. Not all reps are equal and everyone will have a different response to the training stimulus. Emerging Strategies core principle is to follow the trail of athlete response. Which gets us to the most important aspect of developing strength. That is to put the right weight on the bar and perform the right number of reps.
Making smart, methodical progressions in load from week to week can make a massive difference in the outcome of a block. Check out these approaches to help set you up for success.
Pivot blocks are used to transition from one development block to the next. They are similar to traditional de-load weeks, but also different enough that require us to look at them a bit differently. Here is more on how we use them.
At RTS we believe in the Self-Organizing Technique. Not all lifters have the same anatomical considerations. It becomes important to optimize the technique based on the individuals levers. Here's more on that subject.
This is the platform we use for hosting the community. In here you can chat with RTS Coaches, RTS Lifters, and other members of the training lab. We encourage discussion here about all things powerlifting. This is a great place to troubleshoot and engage in various training dialogue. This video will show you more about the Mighty Networks platform.
Office hours is a great way to get personalized support from RTS Coaches and our industry experts. These are live calls that allow for the support to progress in a more conversational manner. This ensures more personalized suggestions to support your efforts in training and/or coaching. Watch this video to learn more about office hours.
All office hours are recording and are available for play back. You can go back to the beginning of the RTS Training Lab and watch any off them. Here's more on how to find those replays.
In addition to the above injury guide. We also highly recommend that you attend one of the physical therapy office hours in the RTS Training Lab. Consulting with those professionals will be highly valuable in the process of recovery and management of any ache/pain/injury.
